From taps with built in water filters or taps with spray functions to taps with ceramic disc technology to make them easier to use and more responsive, we offer everything that you might need for your kitchen

It can be a difficult choice making sure that you have selected the correct brassware to suit you, after all its something that once installed you will have to live with so you should make a careful and informed choice. Luckily we are here to help with a few handy tips on selecting a kitchen tap.

SELECTING A KITCHEN TAP

First here are a couple of basic considerations

  • Remember to turn off you water supply before changing your tap!
  • Remember to check the pipe work, especially if you are replacing old taps. It can be difficult connecting to old rusty pipes.
  • Though most kitchen taps are designed to be tall you should remember that you will likely need to fill things like kettles and buckets using this tap and so you should make sure that they are high set taps.

Now you must consider the kitchen sink that you are using. If you are also installing a new sink with your taps you will have more freedom but if you are installing a new kitchen tap on an existing sink then the design of the sink should guide your choice.

  • Look at the design of the sink, How many tap holes does it have. This will help you decide whether you need a monobloc tap, two separate taps, a mixer tap etc.
  • Does the sink have a rinser? A rinser sink would require a non fixed kitchen tap with a moveable spout.
  • What is the finish and style of the sink? You should select a tap that matches and compliments your sink, for example, does your sink have a metallic finish or enamel finish. Similarly if your sink is notably modern in style then a more traditional style tap may look out of place or vice versa.

Next you must consider the fittings, pipework and system into which you are going to fit your new taps.

  • Water Pressure - some taps require a minimum pressure of 1.0 Bar to function correctly. Systems that usually will have high pressure are ;
    • Unvented (Pressurised) Systems
    • Combi Boiler fed by mains and heats water as it is used
    • Gravity fed system with a pump

Finally, think about functionality and any special requirements you may require.

  • Do you require a water filter tap, Monobloc, Mixer Tap or pull out spray functions?
  • Would it be beneficial to have any functional features such as ceramic disc technology, for example if someone with a disability will be using the taps then they would find it easier to use a lever tap that can be controlled within a quarter turn.

Now you should be able to select a kitchen tap from Discounted Heating's excellent kitchen taps section.
