There are 3 types of high efficiency boiler available, Combi, Regular (heating) or System. They are all engineered to last and perform but are all for slightly different situations.
A Combi Boiler is basically a high efficiency water heater and central heating boiler in one unit. With these boilers water is heated directly from the mains and so there is no need for a hot water storage cylinder of cold water storage cistern. This also means that they are compact units and do not take up much room.
A Regular or Heating boiler is used in homes with a traditional heating and hot water system that requires a separate hot water cylinder. They also require a cold water storage cistern to feed the hot water cylinder. These are usually a good option in homes where large amounts of stored hot water is required, for example, in an area with low water pressure.
A System boiler has many of the components of a hot water system built in to it so that it is easy to install. There is no need for a feed or an expansion vessel. Systems of this kind are usually compatible with either a mains pressure hot water cylinder or a low pressure hot water cylinder.
