An electric boiler, in the right circumstances, can be an excellent choice to make when looking for a central heating boiler. With electric heating boilers, electric combi boiler and electric system boilers there are a variety of situations where electric boilers can work for you. Basically electric boilers work in much the same way as a gas boiler except that they use electricity to heat the water. An electric element within the boiler heats the water which is then pumped round the system to the radiators. Using electricity to run your central heating is at face value, more expensive than gas but there are considerations that when considered could make an electric boiler the right choice.
Because an electric boiler does not burn any fuel internally then there is no need for a flue. With no combustion occurring there is no room for energy to be lost during this process and lost out of the flue as happens in gas boilers. This means that electric boilers are 100% energy efficient. In comparison with gas boilers, electric boilers have less inner workings and mechanisms. Not only is this less to go wrong in the boiler but it also means that electric boilers are more compact, lighter and notably they function pretty much silently. Because there is no need for a flue it is much easier to install electric boilers and there are no restrictions on where in your home you place your electric boiler. This in turn means that maintenance of an electric boiler is easier as there is no need for annual servicing or maintenance contracts to worry about. With no combustion occurring within the boiler there is also a huge safety benefit to electric boilers. No combustion means no gasses or dangerous and combustible substances making an electric boiler a much safer means of heating.
Many manufacturers note that the lack of moving parts in an electric boiler means that it is far less likely to suffer any technical problems and that an electric boiler will last longer than a gas boiler. It is claimed that the estimated life of a gas boiler is around 10 years but for an electric boiler this figure is 15 years. That means an electric boiler has a 50% longer life than a gas boiler. With all the money saved through not needing annual services or maintenance, better energy efficiency and cheaper installation this could make an electric boiler a financially wise choice.
